The graduate job market in the UK is looking positive thanks to a recovering economy & a improved outlook from employers, with research showing that employers in the UK are set to hire ’18% more graduates in 2014’* compared to last year. A significant jump in comparison to 4.3% for the previous year.
It would seem that this year is one of the strongest since the recession in terms of job prospects for the 350,000 students expected to graduate. However, there still looks to be a disconnect between leaving academia & entering the workforce, as 87%** of Britain’s leading employers are struggling to fill vacancies due to the poor quality of graduate job applications, according to research from the Association of Graduate Recruiters. The report claims graduates “fall down at the application stage”, highlighting that graduates are unable to create a CV that leads to a job interview.
Adam Ball, General Manager of Talent Cupboard, believes that innovation is needed to improve the way in which young people can showcase their skills to employers, stating, “The biggest advancement in the last 20 years of applying for a job has been emailing your CV rather than posting it. It seemed backwards to be emailing a boring document to employers trying to get your personality & skills across. With Talent Cupboard we’re looking to help young people to create a CV that’s built for the 21st Century, as well making it easier for employers to find the right people by being able to intelligently search through a database of skills”.
Talent Cupboard is looking to help bridge the gap between academia & the workplace by making it easier for young people to better showcase their skills & stand out from the crowd. The CV building tool makes it easy to create a CV that is optimised for employers with a step by step guide to completion to ensure nothing is missing.
A large emphasis is placed on using video to help give employers a quick preview of potential candidates. This combined with being able to search for specific skills is going to allow employers not to just passively receive applications, but to identify & reach out to the graduates they really want.
The company is focussed on building relationships with universities around the UK in order to help as many students & graduates as possible but is open to any young person to use.
