The TL;DR version of this is:
We launched an awesome free tool to help business owners understand how good their website is and where they can start making improvements today. Test out your own website today.
I can’t stop thinking about a problem. It occupies my days and nights, and may seem odd to those who don’t know me, but it’s an issue that I’m really passionate about: helping businesses do better online.
Of the 5.2 million+ SMEs that are in the UK today, it’s estimated that 47% of these businesses no website. Literally no online presence to speak of.
Given that, as consumers of technology, the UK leads Europe with people utilising digital products and services it turns out to be a sad state of affairs when it comes to businesses making the most of tech. We’re working on a number of initiatives at Talent Cupboard to tackle this head on – starting with our business friendly website plans, and with other exciting announcements coming in 2016 to help every single business get online and growing in the UK.
But that doesn’t mean the UK has solved 53% of the problem. There are actually tons of businesses where their current websites just aren’t delivering on their potential and that’s just not right.

For example, one of the biggest shifts in recent years has been the move from desktop to mobile. As consumers, we’re spending more and more time on these devices and its been reported that now over 60% of web traffic is mobile.
Again, the trouble is that businesses are struggling to keep up with the pace of change and it’s reported that only 6% of UK small business websites are optimised for mobile. This means that many entrepreneurs and business owners are potentially missing out to the bigger players due to improvements that they may not even be aware of.
That’s why we’ve built a free website grader tool, aimed specifically at helping SMEs, to highlight how good a website currently is and where improvements can easily be made.
We’ve compiled a number of different factors from how easy to use a website is, through to how well it can be found online through social media and search engines. The whole website grader has been engineered so that even the less tech-savvy using it will be able to take away useful information from the report and turn it into action.
We really hope you test this out and please do share with others who might find it useful!
P.s. if you have any feedback or other areas you might like to see included within the report then make sure to tweet us over at @TalentCupboard.
